Bear 32 Chunk

A Brief History of Bear 32 Chunk

Boar (male)

Chunk was first identified back in 2007 as a “Chunky” subadult, and was thought to be a 1st year cub in 2005. Chunk quickly grew to be one of the most dominating males on Brooks River. In 2021, Chunk returned to Brooks River with a open wound on his nose that turned into his infamous scar. In 2025, he returned to the river with the lower part of his jaw broken and dangling.

First Seen: 2007 as a subadult; COY 2005

Beat 32 Chunk Brooks River, Alaska

Walking to Brooks River I came upon Bear 32 Chunk. Chunk gave me a loud “woof!” and some jaw clicking letting me know that I was not welcome. This image was taken on August 8th, 2020. The year before he would get his notable nose scar.
