Upon arriving at Brooks Falls you will need to attend a brief and important "Bear Safety Orientation." At the orientation, they will give you the rules and regulations of the park. I am not going to go over everything, but there are two very important rules. First, you must not come within 50 yards of a bear, or any large mammal (Code of Federal Regulations). Second, you must obey all instructions and commands from Rangers and Bear Management staff.

A brown bear can run 35 miles an hour. Something traveling 35 mph can cover 50 yards in 2.92 seconds. You cannot out run a bear. Stay a good distance away. Also, the Park Rangers and Bear Management staff will know things about an individual bears or situations that you don’t. Don’t argue with the Rangers. It is OK to miss a shot or two because of a safety directive. Brooks Falls is full of endless photographic opportunities.

Enjoy the park and have fun!
